Remembering ‘Superstar’ Rajesh Khanna :

Born on December 29, 1942, as Jatin Khanna, the actor was raised by the relatives of his biological parents. He changed his name from Jatin to Rajesh on his uncle’s advice whilst foraying into Bollywood. He attended St Sebastian’s Goan High School along with his childhood friend Ravi Kapoor, who later adopted the screen name Jeetendra.

Rajesh Khanna was selected through a talent hunt organized by Filmfare and United Producers in 1965, much before television became popular in India. It is said that Khanna, known for his confidence and style, approached filmmakers in his own MG sports car during his struggling days.

In his over three-decades long career, Rajesh Khanna worked in only about 20 films as two-hero projects and played the solo lead in more than 100 romantic comedies and dramas. Khanna was hailed as India's first superstar after 15 consecutive solo hits between 1969 and 1972 including ‘Aradhana’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, ‘Anand’ and ‘Amar Prem’.
