Some of the Most Frequently Asked Questions about Hometesterclub & Services:
- So how does the Home Tester Club product testing work?
Boxes are sent out randomly. They will either be Campaign boxes or Syndicated (with more than one product) boxes.
As a member you will be able to apply for a box of grocery products to test via the website if it’s a Syndicated box. We will put up a notification on the website and ask members to register. From those who would have registered we then select the number of members we require that correspond with the number of boxes that we will be sending at that particular time. We will then notify only the selected members via email, therefore if you do not hear from us after registering for a syndicated box that means you will not have made it. The box will be delivered to you free of charge and all that we ask is that you complete the necessary feedback through the online surveys.
We also have Campaign boxes and for those we select members according to specific profiles. If you are selected we will then notify you through an email with instructions of what we require you to do. We have different campaigns that require different responses. Sometimes we will ask you to complete an online survey or we will ask you to share products with your friends. Lastly we have campaigns where we ask you to post your reviews on our website/Facebook page. All these details will be explained to you in an email/ letter accompanying your box of products.
- What are the questions about?
We’ll ask you a wide variety of questions on all aspects of the products you’ve tested. For example, what did you think of the packaging? Was it easy to use? Did you like the flavor? How would you rate each product out of ten? We’re interested in your thoughts about everything that influences your shopping decisions.
- Where do I find the surveys online?
Please note that all members can see that there are surveys available. Once you log in and click on the survey tab it shows which are applicable to you. If there are none available then you are not required to complete any surveys at that particular time. If there are surveys available, please complete them by the due date to avoid missing out on further boxes.
*****Please note that in terms of any feedback that you email to the club, you need to use your email that you registered with. We are not able to track who you are unless you use the correct email address or you supply us with your ID number if you are emailing from a work address for example.
- What if I don’t answer the questions?
We’re sure you’ll have a lot to tell us about the products you try out. But if for some reason you don’t fill out the online questionnaire, we’ll have to disqualify you from future free boxes.
- What’s in it for me?
As a Home Tester Club tester, you’ll get a chance to test free products. They might be different to what you usually buy in the supermarket. They might make you think differently about the everyday choices you make. Perhaps you’ll realize you actually prefer the new products you receive, or discover that the product you’ve always used is your favourite after all. Whatever you think, we want to hear it.
We do our best to make sure you get a variety of products too – maybe one package will contain cereal bars to keep you going during the day and your next will contain bath bubbles for a bit of pampering. It’s quite exciting – there’s no guessing what will arrive. You also get to interact with other members through their product reviews on the website and occasionally through Home Tester Club breakfasts if we hold one in your area.
- Are my responses and personal details shared with other parties?
For the Home Tester Club to be of use to the companies whose products you’re testing and to your fellow members, your responses will be collated so that we can share your opinions. However, your personal details, including your name, address and email will not be shared with anyone outside of Buchanan Group, unless you opt to share some of your details with fellow members. - What can I do to get a box?
There are two types of boxes that are regularly sent out. One that members can register for:

When a box becomes available we will post an alert on the hometesterclub.com homepage. Applications will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis. This gives everyone a chance to apply for a box and rewards regular visitors to the site. Once we have received a set number of applicants, the alert disappears from the homepage. We then select randomly from this group the lucky recipients and notify them via email. If we don’t notify you within a week your application has not unfortunately been selected.

- So how do I improve my chances?
By sending in your new product reviews as close to the month end as possible (top 20 ‘watchers’ of completely new products will be guaranteed of getting a box), by visiting the website regularly to see when the notifications are posted to register for boxes, by making sure that your contact details are up-to-date. The address needs to be a day time physical address with all the relevant details provided; street number, street name, suburb, postal code, state and a cell phone number should be included. If it’s a work address, the name of the company also needs to be clearly stated.
- New member? How long do I wait before getting product to test?
Sometimes you’re lucky to get product to test within the first few months and sometimes you wait for a while. There is neither a set time really after you sign up nor is it automatic. However as explained above; participating actively on the club in answering General surveys etc increases your chances. It’s almost like a lucky dip J
- How do I join Home Tester Club?
To join the club, simply click on the website: www.hometesterclub.com, click on the South African flag, and then click on the “join now” button. Once you have successfully signed up you will receive a confirmation email.
- How do I change my details/update my profile?
Simply log on to the website and click on your name on the top right hand corner of the page. This will take you to your ‘Dashboard’. On the right side of the screen are various options: Change My Details, Profile, Settings, and photo.
- How do I track my parcel?
If you have been chosen to receive a parcel you will receive a tracking number which will display on your dashboard when you log in. This tracking number is what you use to trace your parcel. We use Dawn Wing couriers to deliver our boxes.
You can contact any of their offices closest to your area. Please note that we cannot track your parcel for you. We do not have the resources to track and trace all our members’ parcels. This is why we send you a tracking number so that you can keep track of your parcel.
- Problems logging in?
Please make sure that you always log in with the email that you registered with and the password unless of course you have changed either. If you still can’t log in, send us an email and we can re-set your password for you.
